Iago serves at the main antagonist of Othello. Iago is essentially Othello's most trusted advisor and closest friend. However, due to Cassio receiving a promotion from Othello that Iago considered rightfully he is, he developed a hatred for Othello. With that hatred, Iago creates a plot to destroy everything that Othello holds dear.
Personally, while I would not like to meet him in real life, I find Iago to be a fascinating character. His sharp wit, quick and strategic thinking, and manipulative abilities make him out to be a fantastic villain for the play. It was very interesting to see how well Iago could change the situations that took place and bend Othello's mind into believing things that were false.
Iago displays jealous throughout the entire play. He is jealous of Cassio for receiving the position/promotion that he felt HE had earned. This jealousy sets in motion the events of the entire play. He also exhibits some small feelings for Desdemona, showing jealousy of Othello having her.
